Motocross World Championship MX1

 

Tony Cairoli and Sidi put their mark on the first-ever motocross World Championship race to take place in Mexico. The unstoppable streak of successes of the KTM champion goes on with his win in the MX1 category. The race took place on May 13 on the Guadalajara track in Mexico. After two spectacular and very close races, Cairoli conquered his second seasonal title, bringing his career tally to 45.

After a Speedy Gonzales-like fast start, Cairoli dominated and won race1, crossing the checkered flag on the finish line alone. During race2 Cairoli, who didn’t start quite as fast, encountered a few problems but was prompt to react, literally unleashing his talent and being able to come back from behind and obtain third place. Given those two results, Cairoli was the winner of the first edition of the Mexico Grand Prix, bringing Sidi Crossfire boots with him on the highest step of the podium.

Ken de Dycker completed the great success for Sidi, riding a KTM motorcycle and ending third in race1 and fifth in race2. The rider was barely left out of the podium, obtaining fourth place in the overall Grand Prix standings. The world championship is firing up race after race, becoming more and more challenging and lively. Tony Cairoli is retaining his strong lead, with 178 points. Desalle is in second place with 149, while Paulin has 134 points in third and De Dycker has moved up to fourth with 131.

 New horizons are opening for the motocross World Championship after its Mexican stint. The Championship will have a new chapter in South America, where the Brazil Grand Prix is scheduled to take place next week. Cairoli will do everything he can to once again precede all his rivals… the competitors have been warned.

SIDI STARS IN SUPERCROSS - Second place for Davi Millsaps in the 2012 FIM World Supercross championship!

 The World Supercross Championship for 2012 reached its conclusion with the seventeenth and last event at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. Sidi has also made its mark on the most intense Supercross series in the World thanks to Davi Millsaps.

In Las Vegas Millsaps rode his Yamaha to close out the final race of the year in second place, right behind Ryan Dungey. Born in Orlando, Florida in 1985 but a resident in California, “Davi”’s brilliant performance this season also carried him to second place in the final classification for the series. At the beginning of the season no one could have predicted this great result, which was built by the American race after race. Millsaps has had a shining career that also includes the 2006 World Title in the Supercross Lites category, and he has become one of the most talented and competitive pilots on the American circuit. 

The final verdict in the world rankings speaks for itself: the champion is Ryan Villopoto, prevailing in first place with 323 points, followed by Davi Millsapsin second place with 266 points. The winner of Las Vegas, Ryan Dungey, was overall third with 257 points, while Justin Brayton was fourth with 257 points and Jake Weimer was fifth with a total of 229.

This second place is really an important and prestigious result for Sidi, which stands out at the forefront of World Motocross racing on the Old Continent, where Tony Cairoli and other aces from the Sidi stables dominate, and in America, where Davi Millsaps is keeping the Sidi colors flying high. The common denominator in these extraordinary successes is Sidi Crossfire, the number one boot for cross that is confirming itself as the unbeatable king of off road, in any situation and on any type of terrain.

  Maser (Treviso), 16 April, 2012 - The head to head between Chiara Fontanesi and Livia Lancelot in the WMX World series continues. The second round in the women's World Championship, which took place Sunday on the French Castelnau de Lévis circuit, opened a new act in this thrilling duel, which will most likely last throughout the entire season.

 Chiara Fontanesi won the first rainbow race of the season in Holland. This time instead,  in the French GP  Livia Lancelot was on her home turf and she was calling the shots in both trials, in race1 as well as race2,  coming in right in front of her rival,  Fontanesi. Not even the wind and rain could stop these intrepid gals from  Sidi Sport - branded motocross. In fact, as always, they could  both  count on the help of their Sidi Crossfires, the number one boots in motocross that remain unbeatable on any terrain and in any weather condition, even the most difficult. 

The world challenge is starting to heat up; Fontanesi is still ahead in the standings with 94 points, but right behind her, at a distance of just  two lengths,  the spectre of Livia Lancelot looms large. The next date in this compelling, Sidi-stamped, pink challenge is set for May 20 with the Italian GP in  Arco di Trento.

Updating Your Older Crossfire SR Boots with Newer 1/4" Screw Soles.

If you already own Sidi boots you probably already know they can last you a really long time. How long depends on the rider and the care, but it is not rare for customers to ask us for replaceable parts on boots that haven't been produced in over a decade. Sidi, being the insane quality driven Italians that they are, also do not create a model and leave it alone. More often than not they make revisions to current model boots from real world feed back from pro riders and even more importantly....you. 

These revisions usually create new replaceable parts and thus sometimes is confusing to what parts go to what models. In this case we are going to look at the Sidi Crossfire SR and the it's replaceable sole. 

The original replaceable sole on the Sidi Crossfire SR used regular 10mm screws. In 2006 Sidi created a new version of the sole that solved two issues they were coming across. One being the build up and water and dirt within the long threaded screws caused more stress to the customer when trying to replace them. The other being their other soles (the hard and soft compound Super Moto soles) didn't fit as snug as they would like around the outside lip of the boot. Below you can see a comparision of the older Sidi Crossfire SR boot soles and the current 1/4" screw soles that come standard on the Crossfire SR. The area in red show the change in molding giving the sole a more snug fit (especially for the Super Moto soles...) 

So you have a pair of the 2006 and before Sidi Crossfire SR boots and would like to replace the sole? What do you need? 

1.) If your screws are still in usable condition...awesome. If not, you can purchase replaceable ones here. 

2.) A new sole and a dremol tool, orbital sander, or something that you can use to grind down the area on the outside of the new sole to fit into the older molding. A bastard cut file may work as well, but you will most likely want to use something mechanized. 

The image below displays the older version on top of the newer version giving you an idea of the area of sole that will need to be shaved down to fit. 

Using this example your older version of the Sidi Crossfire SR boots may now work with the Sidi MX Sole, Super Moto Soles, and even the new 2012 Adventure Touring sole.

The Italian rider recently visited the Sidi headquarters in Maser (Treviso) Italy before taking off for the Malaysian circuit in Sepang, where he’ll face his first tests on his new official Yamaha supplied by Team Tech3. It was an occasion to meet the Sidi staff who’ll be following him closely on this new adventure, so Dovizioso could familiarize himself with the new Sidi Vortice boots he’ll be wearing for the 2012 World Championship series.

WHIBLEY CLINCHES - OMA CHAMPIONSHIP

Paul Whibley gets it done early.

FMF/AmPro Yamaha’s Paul Whibley got his wish when he wrapped up his fourth consecutive Parts Unlimited Off-Road Motorcycle and ATV Nationals Championship two rounds early.

Round eight of the series - the Rekluse Moonshine Cross-Country National – held near Erie, Illinois, on September 18, saw Whibley jet to the early lead when he started out by snaring the $200 FMF Holeshot Award. But with a light rain turning the course slick and trickier than it had been during practice on Saturday, he opted to ride relatively cautiously.


American Honda/GEICO Powersports/JG Off-road’s Scott Watkins and Obermeyer Yamaha’s Jordan Ashburn took advantage of that, as well as an unscheduled stop by Whibley. But Whibley regained his lost ground and re-passed for the lead just past the halfway mark, motoring to a 37-second margin of victory over Ashburn. Ashburn’s runner-up clinched second in the championship.

Watkins would hold on for third over teammate Rory Mead with K’s Motorsports-backed Adam Bonneur rounding out the top five.

“Today was just [about] winning the race,” Whibley said. “I wasn’t even thinking about the championship.

There’s still two more races to go, and I would like to win both of those as well.”

SIDI SPORT CELEBRATES TONY CAIROLI’S FIFTH WORLD TITLE - Motocross MX1

Sidi is happily celebrating with immense satisfaction along with Tony Cairoli (Team Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing motocross) his 2011 World Title victory in the motocross MX1 class. 

On Sunday, September 4th, in the European GP on the German circuit in Gaildorf, the Sicilian champion took home the fifth Championship Title of his career, with one race left to go until the end of the series. Cairoli only needed a few points to mathematically secure the title, but of course he raced in his own style, putting on a show and going all out to win. 

Cairoli started out with an 82 point advantage over his closest rival in the standings, Frenchman Frossard. But regardless of this margin he certainly wasn’t playing it safe. 

Cairoli was third in race1 and second in race2 after two amazing comebacks, which carried him to the win in the final standings in the Grand Prix and sealed his World Title.

By now the world rankings speak for themselves: Cairoli is first with 596 points, Frossard is second with 472 and Desalle comes in third with 461 points. Besides Cairoli, Sidi has another three riders in the World Championship Top 10: fourth-placed German Max Nagl, Portugal’s Rui Goncalves in sixth place and  ninth-placed Jonathan Barragan from Spain. Next Sunday will be the final showcase, on the Fermo circuit for the Italian Grand Prix, which will be the last race in the 2011 World Title series.

Tony Cairoli keeps racking up record stats. Now he has captured 5 World Titles, two in MX2 in 2005 and 2007, and three consecutive titles in MX1 in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

For all these extraordinary victories Cairoli has been able to count on Sidi, which has supported him with commitment and passion. In this season the Sicilian rider has won 6 of the 14 Grand Prix races to now, with 5 second place finishes.

Altogether, he holds 43 championship victories (24 in MX2, the rookie series, and 19 in MX1, the master series in cross), with 88 heat victories in 123 Grand Prix competitions throughout his career. To give an idea of the value of Cairoli’s accomplishments, it’s enough to think that in the history of motocross there have only been two “legends”, like Stefan Everts, the king of motocross with 10 Championship Titles, and Joel Roberts, who have been able to win more.

And Sidi gets the satisfaction of also having been next to these two phenomena. Records were made to be broken and Cairoli certainly doesn’t seem to have any intention of stopping now...

For Tony Cairoli and Sidi the race towards the World Title in MX1 seems to have no obstacles. This would be the fifth World Title for Cairoli in his extraordinary career in motocross.

On Sunday, August 21st, in the Great Britain Grand Prix the champion from Sidi was back to winning. On the fast, spectacular circuit in Winchester, Cairoli clinched his fifth success of the season to gain precious points which launched him above the stratosphere of all the other riders in the championship standings. Cairoli put on a great show on the British circuit, standing out as the lead player with an exceptional performance. In fact, the Italian rider riding for KTM had two unfortunate starts, but fearlessly relying on his guts and class, he was able to make a fantastic comeback. In race1 he made it back into third position, and in race2 he even managed to make it to the highest step on the podium. These two important results carried him to victory on the day, ahead of Frenchmen Pourcel and Frossard, and more importantly added to his uncontested lead in the World Title rankings.

And it wasn’t just Cairoli; lots of Sidi stars are standing out as major players in this 2011 motocross season. In Great Britain in race1 in fact, Tanel Leok took fourth place, Max Nagl came in fifth and sixth place went to Rui Goncalves.

While in race2 Jonathan Barragan was fourth and Max Nagl fifth. Nagl, who’s in top form, came in just shy of the final podium, in fourth place in the Grand Prix overall standings. As always, Cairoli and the other Sidi aces had some serious help from their co-stars - that is, their Sidi Crossfire boots, the boots of champions and the number one in motocross.

Now it’s on to the Gaildorf circuit in Germany, for the European Grand Prix scheduled for next September 4th. It will be the second-to-last World Title test and for Cairoli to conquer the championship mathematically he’ll only have to come in eighteenth or garner eight more points. But of course, the super-champ will want to take on the race in his usual style… to win, have fun and put on a show.
