New to the snowmobile market last season, Vemar helmets are made in Italy and distributed throughout North America by Motonation, a company in Santee, California. Vemar’s Jiano modular lid is DOT-certified and features a dropdown internal sun shade that’s activated by a side-mounted lever that has near-vertical motion.

A thermoplastic outer shell encloses a dual-density polystyrene inner shell to provide a solid protection platform for this helmet. Built in two distinct shell sizes for better fit, the Jiano definitely runs small for American heads. I needed a size XXL instead of an XL like I normally wear, and still found the chin bar clearance near my jaw to be marginal. Weight is slightly less than 4 pounds, depending on size.

There is no internal face mask in this helmet, which is right up my alley as I just can’t stand a wet, slimy breathing contraption over my face all day. There are no filters to replace or little tubes that freeze shut or break like I’ve experienced with other modular helmets.
Other key features include metal-to-metal chin bar latches, adjustable chin bar and crown vents, and a quick-release chinstrap buckle. Quick release buckles are hard to find on helmets these days, so this feature is a very nice plus. The snow version includes a no-tool, anti-fog dual-lens face shield that can be installed and removed pretty easily. A protective soft cloth bag is also included.

Vemar Jiano Modular Helmet: High Value

The $275 Vemar Jiano is available in black, white or silver ranging from XXS to XXL. The optional electric shield with a two-piece convenience cord is $124. Replacement standard dual-lens shields are $74, and replacement inner sunshades are $35. Warranty is a full five years, so the price becomes very attractive when amortized over the anticipated life of this helmet.

I found the Vemar Jiano to be a moderately comfortable, reasonably easy-to-use helmet that is well suited to snowmobiling. If you’re ready to move up from ordinary helmets to something better, the Jiano is definitely worth .

AGV Sport Laguna Motorcycle Gloves Review via Webbikeworld.com

Summary

The AGV Sport Laguna gloves are the "premier full length sport-racing glove" in the AGV Sport lineup.
These sport or sport-touring gloves are made from soft, mid-weight leather and they have an array of protective features.

Their main claim to fame is the large amount of perforated leather surface area between the fingers, which actually makes the Laguna gloves a good choice for warm-weather without sacrificing protection.

Introduction
I reviewed the AGV Sport Willow gloves (review) last year as part of our "Budget Track Day" series.
That series included reviews of the excellent AGV Sport Willow one-piece leather suit (review) and a pair of Sidi ST boots (review), which made a nice outfit for anyone's street or sport adventures.

The Willow gloves were admittedly the weak link in the chain, so to speak. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with them; just that they are probably more biased towards street riding than serious track day wear.

So, ever on the lookout for the "perfect" pair of street/sport gloves, we moved up one notch along the AGV Sport food chain to the AGV Sport Laguna gloves, which are also the recent benefactor of a list price drop from $129.00 to $99.00, making an especially noteworthy deal.

Background
There are dozens of different motorcycle gloves for sale in the "street" or "sport" category, all nicely sorted into regular pricing intervals and all vying for your hard-earned dollars (or Euros or Pounds or Shekels...).
Choosing a pair isn't easy and reviewing motorcycle gloves is difficult. There's really no way of knowing if one pair or another will protect your hands better when/if the time comes. About all we can really go by is brand reputation and key features, like double-locking closure systems, extra leather on the areas most prone to abrasion and decent-looking stitching.

One does sort of get a feel, so to speak, for the types of features and the construction that hopefully will work best. As is the case with much of the motorcycle gear for sale today, "you get what you pay for". More or less, anyway.

Most of the street/sport gloves in the circa-$100 range have comparable features but there's one in particular that webBikeWorld readers have been looking for: ventilation.

I can't tell you how many emails we've received from webBikeWorlders looking for that "perfect" combination of good ventilation without sacrificing protection. Well, the AGV Sport Laguna gloves may be just the ticket.

I wasn't expecting a street/sport glove to have good ventilation, so this is a surprise. The combination of the medium-weight leather that makes up the body of the Laguna gloves, along with perforated leather inserts on both side of the fingers, make them especially comfortable for warm-weather riding.

Coincidentally, some correspondence with webBikeWorld Laguna glove owners who ride in hot climates has confirmed my findings: the Laguna gloves indeed have a reputation as a good choice for hot weather sportbiking.

Updating Your Older Crossfire SR Boots with Newer 1/4" Screw Soles.

If you already own Sidi boots you probably already know they can last you a really long time. How long depends on the rider and the care, but it is not rare for customers to ask us for replaceable parts on boots that haven't been produced in over a decade. Sidi, being the insane quality driven Italians that they are, also do not create a model and leave it alone. More often than not they make revisions to current model boots from real world feed back from pro riders and even more importantly....you.

These revisions usually create new replaceable parts and thus sometimes is confusing to what parts go to what models. In this case we are going to look at the Sidi Crossfire SR and the it's replaceable sole.

The original replaceable sole on the Sidi Crossfire SR used regular 10mm screws. In 2006 Sidi created a new version of the sole that solved two issues they were coming across. One being the build up and water and dirt within the long threaded screws caused more stress to the customer when trying to replace them. The other being their other soles (the hard and soft compound Super Moto soles) didn't fit as snug as they would like around the outside lip of the boot. Below you can see a comparision of the older Sidi Crossfire SR boot soles and the current 1/4" screw soles that come standard on the Crossfire SR. The area in red show the change in molding giving the sole a more snug fit (especially for the Super Moto soles...)

So you have a pair of the 2006 and before Sidi Crossfire SR boots and would like to replace the sole? What do you need?

1.) If your screws are still in usable condition...awesome. If not, you can purchase replaceable ones here.

2.) A new sole and a dremol tool, orbital sander, or something that you can use to grind down the area on the outside of the new sole to fit into the older molding. A bastard cut file may work as well, but you will most likely want to use something mechanized.

The image below displays the older version on top of the newer version giving you an idea of the area of sole that will need to be shaved down to fit.

Using this example your older version of the Sidi Crossfire SR boots may now work with the Sidi MX Sole, Super Moto Soles, and even the new 2012 Adventure Touring sole.
