We tested this suit during an unseasonably hot trackday at Gingerman Raceway in Michigan. After our first session in the new AGV Sport Laguna 1-piece leather suit, we were spouting words like, “Ergonomics! Design! User friendliness!” In use, the Laguna feels as if it had been created by a serious racetrack rider who’d decided once and for all to fix what he didn’t like about wearing leathers. The suit worked so well that we immediately took it back off so that we could study the garment more closely in an attempt to determine its secrets. The Laguna provides a very different experience from suits we’ve tried in the past and we wanted to know how this had been accomplished.
The first thing that stood out as we rode in the AGV Sport Laguna was that it flowed a ton of air. In fact, while hanging off for G-man’s fastest sweeper, we’d even felt cool wind roaring between our butt cheeks! While on-track, working hard to run fast laps, we were cool to the point of actually feeling refreshed. The minute we stopped the bike, the hot, humid, windless conditions of the day had us sweating and miserable. This suit’s fabulous high speed air conditioning is accomplished through intelligent design, featuring perforations on the chest, shoulders, arms, torso, thighs and shins. There are also flexible rubber ducts built into the shoulders and a huge air scoop in the leading edge of the speed hump to channel air down your back. Breathable yet protective Teramid Kevlar stretch fabric is used in the armpits, forearms and crotch of the suit, which explains the wind howling through our tester’s nether regions. None of this is new technology in the suit industry but with the Laguna, AGV Sport has figured out how to use it to maximum effect. As one example of the company’s clever thinking, they chose to add strips of perforation directly over the major arteries in the wearer’s chest that supply blood to the arms. Cool the blood, cool the rider.
